History
In the 2003 local elections the opposition Conservative group scored an outstanding victory in Wellingborough district, gaining 13 seats to secure an 18-seat majority in the Council Chamber. While in East Northamptonshire overall the Conservative group increased its majority to 30 seats.
In 2005, following on from the local election successes, the Conservatives regained the Parliamentary seat they lost in 1997; Peter Bone secured a 2.9% swing to the Conservatives to win with a majority of 687.
In 2007 the Conservatives in East Northamptonshire virtually eradicated all opposition in the district as they won all but one of the 40 seats in the council chamber. In Wellingborough, the Conservative majority in the 36-seat chamber increased to 24, as they won 30 seats in the borough and at the same time defeated the leader of the Labour group and his deputy.
In 2009 Wellingborough and Rushden Conservatives won 4 more seats on Northamptonshire County Council, so that all Wellingborough and East Northants seats on Northamptonshire County Council are now held by Conservatives. Conservatives hold all of the 21 seats on Rushden Town Council.
In the 2010 general election Conservatives defeat Labour and form a new government in coalition with the Liberal Democrats. David Cameron becomes Prime Minister after thirteen years of opposition.
Peter Bone MP is the Member of Parliament for Wellingborough.
